Gregory Lake
Gregory Lake was build during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. This is one of the most prominent attractions in Nuwara Eliya, is used by visitors as a place to relax & enjoy their time. The lake was used as a place for water sports and for re-recreational activities during the British time. Gregory lake is located about one kilometer away from Nuwara Eliya town. It is believed that the main intention of building this lake is to generate electricity for the town.
Strawberry Farm
The Strawberry farm is Located near the Nuwara Eliya - Pattipola road closed to Meepilimana Reservoir. The farm management has arranged a service for visitors to take them around the Vegetable and Strawberry farm by a Tractor for a reasonable rate.
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world and is enriched with tradition and an ambience which is hard to equal. The Club is situated at the foot of Mount Piduruthalagala (Mount Pedro) and is surrounded by some of the finest tea gardens in Sri Lanka. The 18-hole course which has a length of 6075 yards and a course par of 71 consists of fairways which are long and narrow, bordered by tall trees and dense shrubbery. The grass on the greens is local, mixed with bluegrass.
Hakgala Botanical Gardens
Hakgala Botanical Gardens lie just 10km from Nuwara Eliya town. Hakgala is an essential part of the holiday experience in Nuwara Eliya. According to legend, it was once the pleasure garden of Ravana of the Ramayana epic, and was one of the places where the beautiful Sita was hidden by the demon king.
Horton Plains National Park
Horton Plains National Park, Sri Lanka is undoubtedly one of the world's best nature reserves and eco tourism venues. It is characterized by a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, covered in upper montane forest and wet patana grassland.
Nuwara Eliya Racecourse
Nuwara Eliya Racecourse is the only remaining horse racing venue in Sri Lanka. Situated 1,868 metres (6,129 ft) above sea level, the race course is one of the highest in the world. The track has a circumference of 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) (approx. 9 furlongs) with a 333 metre straight.
Victoria Park
Victoria Park was established in 1897 for the jubilee of Queen Victoria. The park is within the city limits and has become a must see location for anyone who visits Nuwara Eliya. During the summer the park is filled with colorful roses and various flowers you will not be able to see in any other city of Sri Lanka.
Galway's Land National Park
Galway's Land National Park is a small national park situated within the city limits of Nuwara Eliya. Visiting is highly recommended for bird watchers and nature lovers.
Ambewela Farm
Ambewela is a small town & hill station in Nuwera Eliya. The climatic conditions in Ambewela make it a suitable location for dairy farming. This prominent dairy farm is a favorite of local & international tourists alike, and has been dubbed as the Little New Zealand.
